Following the Washington Commanders' branding updates, I saw an opportunity to push their visual identity further. Inspired by the team's rich history and the local culture of the nation's capital, I designed a concept that bridges franchise legacy, civic pride, and modern aesthetics into a single, unified mark.
The Design Details
Rather than starting from scratch, I utilized the team's current primary "W" as a foundation and integrated three key visual pillars:
• Civic Identity: Embedded the iconic double stripes and triple stars of the D.C. flag directly into the outer stems of the "W."
• Heritage Integration: Revived the team's legendary spear logo as the central apex of the mark.
• Local Landmarks: Utilized negative space within the spearhead to reveal a subtle silhouette of the Washington Monument.
The Result
A clean, purposeful logo that honors the franchise’s roots and the spirit of Washington, D.C., without sacrificing the modern, bold structure of the current brand system.
