This project consists of a comprehensive promotional poster campaign and visual identity for Mason Some Noise, a collegiate a cappella group based in Fairfax, Virginia. The goal was to capture the high-energy, vocal-only performance style of the ensemble, translating their musical dynamism into a cohesive, arresting print campaign designed to drive concert attendance and recruitment.
The Design Details
The campaign relies on a striking, unified aesthetic featuring bold typography, duotone image treatments, and a custom visual mark:
• The Logo Design: Developed a custom brand mark centered around a stylized, golden "M" that integrates an iconic vintage studio microphone into its negative space. This instantly establishes the group's collegiate roots and vocal focus.
• Color Palette & Imagery: The posters utilize an atmospheric, high-contrast green and gold duotone treatment. This gives the live performance photography a textured, gritty, and cohesive look while establishing a strong, recognizable brand identity across the entire set.
• Bold, Punchy Copywriting: Each poster serves a distinct promotional purpose, anchored by distinct, impact-driven typography:
- Poster 1 (Group Performance): Features a mid-performance live shot paired with the bold headline, "We never use our inside voices."
- Poster 2 (Audition / Recruitment): A dramatic, minimalist composition spotlighting a lone vintage microphone emerging from a hazy background, accompanied by the call to action, "Brave enough to step in front of the mic?"
- Poster 3 (Group Milestone): Commemorates the group's history with the headline "Making noise since 2015" and the playful subhead "Listen as we cause treble," while cleanly organizing contact and social media handles along the bottom border.
The Result
A powerful, texturally rich poster series that successfully bridges the gap between collegiate tradition and modern performance art. By combining witty copywriting with an atmospheric duotone visual style, the campaign elevates the group's public presence, creating a memorable, professional identity that stands out on a crowded campus.
